Apple iPod Nano (6th generation) Review

Apple has shrunk the Nano.

Last year’s fifth generation model already stripped a lot of the superfluous weight from the device, but this iteration is now just 21.1 grams. This version is more akin to the Shuffle than any previous models, at least in terms of physical size. Gone too is the click wheel that characterised previous Nanos.

Apart from the different form factor, the new Nano features a 1.54-inch TFT screen at a resolution of 240×240 pixels. Capacity remains the same as the previous generation, at 8GB and 16GB. The sixth generation model also adds a clip at the back, with volume controls and lock button at the top of the device, plus multi-touch controls that let you rotate the screen to different orientations. FM radio, pedometer functions and voice over are also carried across.

Notably, Apple has gotten rid of the video camera that appeared on the previous model (and video support on the Nano), and though the interface appears similar to that found on the iPod Touch, there is no physical home button.

    The Nano 6G… A Shuffle posing as a Nano.. ewww

    * Good: Not Much

    * Bad: Downgrade of the Nano

    The Nano 6G should be called the new Shuffle, period. I am a happy owner of the

    Nano 5G and if Apple quits making the Nano 5G, then they lose business and sales.

    So sad if Apple would do this… So go for it Apple and meet your own demise.

    I own along with my family every model of the Ipod except for the Nano 6G and

    honestly might want one just to replace a Shuffle. If I had to replace Nano 5G with a

    Nano 6G, I would just rather buy another BRAND (if one existed) Long live the 5G

    Nano. The 6G again is a great product on its own but once again, the 6G is just a

    glorified touchscreen shuffle. Apple you blew this one.

    I think one of the advantages Apple will have when they release the next gen iPod Nano is that people will be gagging for those older 5th generation features back, thus pushing sales for the 7th gen through the roof: Magical, huh?

    I see this latest product as somewhere in between a Touch and a Shuffle too, and can't help but think that this product would have been better marketed as a brand new MP3 player rather than a replacement or 'upgrade' to the previous gen Nano.

    Nice post btw, would you consider getting a watch strap for it? ;) . Jakk
