Go-karts are self-propelled vehicles that have four wheels, brakes, and an engine. The basic steps for constructing one are outlined here.
- You Will Need
-Internet access
-Go-kart assembly diagram
-Metal-forming tools
-Angle iron
-Welding apparatus
-¼" steel plate
-¼" cold-rolled steel
-Brakes
-20-gauge sheet steel
-⅜ cold-rolled steel
-Heavy shears
-Engine
-Seat
-4 wheels
-Go-kart kit (optional)
Step 1: Construct the frame
Search the internet for a go-kart assembly diagram and construct the go-cart’s frame from angle iron cut to size. Weld the pieces together to form the frame.
Consider purchasing a go-kart kit and assembling the parts in it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 2: Attach the mounting plate
Form the engine mounting plate from quarter-inch steel plate and weld it to the frame.
Step 3: Assemble the throttle and brake linkages
Assemble the throttle and brake linkages and attach them to the frame. Use ¼-inch cold rolled steel for the control rods. Attach two expansion-type brakes.
Step 4: Attach the firewall, belly pan, and side pieces
Form the firewall, belly pan, and side pieces from 20-guage sheet steel using heavy shears. Weld them to the frame.
Step 5: Construct the steering linkage
Construct the steering linkage and attach it to the frame. Use ⅜-inch cold rolled steel for the tie rods and steering wheel.
Step 6: Attach the engine
Attach the throttle linkage, electrical wiring, and engine to the frame
